Calling Cinderella…

In a collection created exclusively for LeSportsac US stores, the Disney Cinderella for LeSportsac Collection celebrates the March 13, 2015 release of Walt Disney Studios’ new live-action film, “Cinderella,” as well as the original animated 1950’s classic we all know and love.

This collection is a romantic take on the fairy tale’s most iconic moments. The aptly named Fairy Tale Moment print, inspired by Cinderella’s magical dress, features silver glitter accents and trim woven with silver Lurex to mimic Fairy Godmother’s wondrous magic. This print is offered in thirteen of LeSportsac’s bestselling Classic styles, ranging from the ultra-functional Small Cleo Crossbody to the ever popular Large Weekender.

Three placement styles are also available; the Hailey Tote in A Moment of Magic displays the iconic staircase scene on the front, and the other side features a large graphic of the famous glass slipper.

Hold on to your crossbodies this is going to be a wild ride! Large fanciful boats regularly cover the waters of Hong Kong for dragon boat racing. A popular local sport, with an estimated 30,000 active paddlers, dragon boat racing is kind of a big deal. To celebrate, this June, Hong Kong hosted its annual international Dragon Boat Festival culminating with the Stanley International Dragon Boat Championship. Attended by 200 of the world’s top dragon boat teams and thousands of spectators, this dance of dragons had dragon boats race to the beat of drums with strong-armed paddlers furiously paddling towards the finish line.

The energy of the crowd and the sighting of popular animated characters racing with a boat team made this amazing event not to be missed. Did we mention that you have to eat the customary food zongi for the festival? The only way we can describe it? A yummy ball of sticky rice goodness.

In celebration of Singapore’s 50 years of Independence, LeSportsac has partnered with a local design collective, BLACK, to produce a limited edition print exclusive to Singapore, Kaki Lima.

BLACK strives to develop creative cultures through its design and has interpreted Singapore’s unique culture in this captivating new print for LeSportsac. A homage to Singapore, Kaki Lima (translation: Five Foot Way) features tiled ornaments inspired by iconic Singapore destinations. Intrigued by how the different ornaments could come together and create a unique patchwork, this culturally inspired new print was born.

Kaka Lima is available only in Singapore for Fall 2015.

Halloween is just around the corner and we’re ready to scare celebrate this festive occasion!

One of the most important staple pieces of the holiday, besides costumes and candy consumption, is the pumpkin decorating! Scary, funny or silly there’s no wrong way to express your Halloween spirit.

Here at LeSportsac, we take our pumpkin duties very seriously. Along with a little help from our friend Snoopy, we were able to create some fun moments inspired by our Winter Peanuts Collection.

Who needs bags of candy with something this sweet? Just kidding… we’ll take the candy too.

LeSportsac is pleased to announce its new collaboration with celebrated Japanese designer, Sasaki Haruki!

Connecting with the ikurahdesign founder and creative director, LeSportsac found common ground with Haruki’s sweet whimsy and love of storytelling. The Bunka Fashion College graduate began his career at Tsumori Chisato and later found a home at FRAPBOIS, before establishing his own brand. Seeing his work as a lens that tells a story and projects fantasy, Haruki’s collection with LeSportsac is a fantasy well told.

The story is spun through two prints: one told through night under the sun, White Night Fantasy, as well as another created under the cover of true night, Black Night Fantasy. Both colorways of the collaborative print will be available in LeSportsac’s best selling Classic styles.

The Sasaki Haruki for LeSportsac collection launches at select LeSportsac locations worldwide beginning December 2015.

People always talk about autumn in New York, but there is nothing as iconic as the holidays in the big apple. As the giving season descended on the city, a few members of the LeSportsac team left the office early and took a walk past Times Square and up Fifth Avenue to enjoy New York under even brighter lights.

First stop Rockefeller Center. It’s one thing to catch the famous Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony on national television, but the energy of the crowd surrounding the team was only surpassed by the energy of the performances. Live performances by Sting, Mary J. Blidge, Carly Rae Jepson, Andrea Bocelli James Taylor and the very New York City institution–The Rockets, had all of our team members dancing and singing along. Then the tree. We couldn’t think of any better known. This 80 year old tree was 78-feet tall, wrapped in 45,000 multi-colored LEDs on five miles of wire, and was topped with blingiest Swarvoski star that encapsulated 25,000 crystals. You know we love ourselves some Swarvoski. This lighting is something that has got to be seen in person.

Feeling the chill in the air, the team then walked to Bryant part to take part in its annual Winter village and to grab some yummy locally made hot cider. Warm cups in hand, the team scoured through the Holiday Shops consisting of a European inspired open-air market of 125 boutiques. Looking for gift ideas the team browsed through hand crafted jewelry, local art and photography, gifts for home, small label fashion, and artisanal treats. Maybe a thing or two was bought and eaten by the team.

But then there was the rink. There’s no New York Holiday experience without a little ice skating in Bryant Park’s seasonal skating rink. Romanced by the idea of skating under the stars and below the bright lights of the big city, the team laced up their skates with the full intent of creating an Olympic worthy performance. The end result was definitely not Kristi Yamaguchi. There were more spills than thrills (falling lots and lots of falling) but the team had a lot of fun and optimism. The rink is open throughout the season so with practice they may perform better yet—LeSportsac on ice anyone?

I had a great visit to London to speak with the team from the iconic Liberty Art Fabrics. London is a great place for exploring and there was inspiration in every corner!

Every office has their to-dos. Here at the NY headquarters two of our favorite things are working at LeSportsac (I hope you are reading this person in charge of raises) and office gossip of the latest celebrity news and TV favorites. We passionately discuss Bravo’s Real Housewives, all seasons obviously, Gigi’s latest outfits and anything that has to do with “Netflix and Chill”.

The latest office love is a Netflix original series and soon to be cult classic, Stranger Things. Starring some problem solving kids, Eggos, spirit animal Winona Ryder, oh yea and a creepy parallel universe, let’s just say we logged in some necessary weekend hours.

To make the 1980-esque show even more FREAKING awesome superb in our eyes, one of the main characters Nancy Wheeler, routinely totes around her purse of choice, a version of our 1980’s Deluxe Everyday Bag. #AuthenticApproved

Voyage through the Pacific as Walt Disney Animation Studios and LeSportsac launch a collaboration featuring their new action adventure film, Moana. The Disney Moana by LeSportsac collection includes the print Wave Reader, a blue and green watercolor ocean splashed with vibrant vignettes of Moana amongst island florals as she travels on her journey. Two graphic pieces round out the collection – Bold Adventure and Ocean Spirit, both featuring Moana on her quest on the vast ocean.

Down time from the day is a MUST and there’s no better excuse to take a little time out when it’s National Craft Month. We decided to make some fun accessories and with a little inspiration from our Spring print Food Talk, it’s going to be quite delicious. Follow along below for directions as well as a link to print out your own Food Talk design.

SUPPLIES:
Shrinky Dinks Frosted Ruff n’ Ready 8”x10” Sheets (available here)
Black Sharpie Marker
Colored Pencils (we recommend Berol Prismacolor)
Scissors
Brown Grocery Bag or Parchment Paper
Cookie Sheet
Glue (we recommend E-6000)
Jewelry Pin Backs (similar available here)

STEP 1 – Open our Food Talk icon template here, right click and save image to your computer, then print it out. Place a sheet of the shrink plastic over your print out, rough side up, and trace the designs with a sharpie onto the plastic sheet (you can use a pencil first if you’re a bit nervous).

STEP 2 – Color in your designs on the rough side of the plastic sheet with colored pencils. You don’t have to get super heavy coverage, the areas will fill in when the plastic shrinks.

STEP 3 – Carefully cut out you designs with scissors, leaving a small border.

STEP 4 – Now you’re ready to get your shrink on!

•Pre-heat your oven to 300F (a toaster oven will work too)
•Cut a piece a piece of brown grocery bag (or parchment paper) to fit your baking sheet
•Place your cutout designs a few at a time on the brown paper lined cookie sheet, rough side up (the side you colored on)
•Bake for 2 to 3 minutes, watching carefully as the items start to shrink. Don’t worry if they curl up, that’s just part of the process! They will lay flat once fully shrunk, then allow an additional 30 seconds more baking. Remove cookie sheet from oven and let your deigns cool completely.

STEP 5 – Glue the jewelry pin backs to the rough side of your little shrunken masterpieces, the shiny side is the side you want to show-off! Allow glue to dry according to package directions.

STEP 6 – Flair, flair, everywhere! Decorate your jacket, shirt, bags, wherever you want! :)
